Three kids from ACC Malawi (Wan Xian, Wan En & A Om) recently participated in the 4th Chinese proficiency international competition, hosted by the organization Chinese Bridge, which took place at China in October 2011. This competition is aimed at people from the age of 15 to 20 who were raised outside of China and do not use Chinese as a mother tongue. Over 140 contestants, representing 43 countries across five continents, participated in this year’s highly-contested competition.

After winning first place at the African preliminary round in August, the ACC kids arrived in China with full confidence and as a team achieved third place in the contest! One of kids won an award for outstanding performance, while the other three each got a bursary to study in the Confucius institute of China for one semester. Most importantly, the kids learnt a valuable lesson: hard work pays off.

For ACC, this recognition re-affirms the centre’s effort in cultivating the kids based on an integration of both African and Eastern culture.
